{The Spectacle: Collection I . Senior Exit Art Show}

Over the past six months I have been working on a HUGE project: my senior art show.

“The Spectacle” Collection I

I have done my job as an artist if these photographs are confusing and make you question your eyes. Trust me, my intentions are not to scare you – but rather evoke emotion within you. I want you to be
able to relate to the photographs in your own personal way. If you haven’t already, stare into the sitters’ eyes, connect yourself within the emotions you see.

I wanted to take my camera and capture a strong opinion I have about America. We all know the issues and challenges our country has faced over the past decade: people going bankrupt, loss of jobs,
real estate decline, the government transitions, etc. Who should we blame? My opinion is that the people are the problem. Everything and everyone seems to be covered up with a false representation of the truth. Everyone points fingers and asks why things have taken a turn for the worse, yet no one will point their finger at themselves, exactly where it should be. With this in mind I wanted to be able to capture the deep emotional ties and hurt Americans are facing, along with the selfish tendency and greed developed over the course of our economic struggles.

America is turning into a big circus where the people act nothing less than a bunch of clowns.
Artist Tim Burton has been an inspiration for my art for years. Within this series of photography I appropriated Tim Burton’s aesthetic in the staging of the characters and the manipulation of the image. I admire other artists, such as Dorothea Lange and Loretta Lux for the range of emotion they captured within their images. Both Lange and Lux were able to convey a emotion that I sought to embody within my images.

Thank you Tanya Thompson for your skill of make-up artistry and to the models, Rose Campanale, Ashleigh McCook, Craig Wilson, Fallon Galloney, and Brittany Hellmiester for help in making my vision come to life. You took my idea
and brought it to reality for more viewers to relate to and I thank you for that, dearly.
